When you report, go to the Sec 3 ma'am on duty at the booth to get your attendance taken and to place your bags into the Guide den
The attire for tomorrow is as follows: Those stationed at the booth will be in Full Guide Uniform; those who are Mobilers will be in Half Guide Uniform (T-Shirt & Skirt), if your shirt is not yet dry, report in Full Uniform
Guides in the first shift, please report at 8:00 am to set up
Guides in the last shift are only allowed to leave once the booth has been taken down
If you find yourself sick/unable to come tomorrow, please inform Hannah ma'am @ 91365050 or Fajar ma'am @ 94377271 through text message, unexplained absences will be punished
Once your shift is over, you are allowed to leave

ACTIVITY 2 : STEADY HANDS EXTRAORDINAIRE (GUIDES)

3) Participants are given a stack of poker cards which they have to stack up.

3) She must then share this list with her teammates, and they decide who does what.

ACTIVITY 5: TELEMATCH

NO. OF PARTICIPANTS – 8 PER TEAM

Teams of 8 will compete against one another in a series of fun activities.

Games include:

“Seven legged worm” (team joins their feet together and walk a certain distance)
“Tug-of-War” (with a slight twist: as teams pull, they will also attempt to pick up “items” on the floor that will help gain more points, think “Super Mario”)
Drunken sailor, and piñata (team sends a representative and performs “drunken sailor” and thereafter, all “drunken sailors” will move ahead to hit common piñata. Other team members are to pick up “items” at the very first instant when the piñata is broken.)

ACTIVITY 6: THE HANDICAP CHALLENGE

NO. OF PARTICIPANTS: 5 PER TEAM

Guides will be made to fill the shoes of the less fortunate members of our society through this activity.

Teams of 5 will play roles of different impairments (visually, physically etc) and complete a series of given tasks within the time limit (15 minutes).

Tasks include:

Tying of knots while blindfolded,
passing a message (from a visual impaired to a hearing/speech impaired) etc.
feeding (food/ water)
cleaning up a messy room etc.

This activity aims to highlight Guide Law #7: A Guide has courage and is cheerful in all difficulties, and also to allow Guides to feel for themselves the inconveniences felt by the impaired members of our society.

ACTIVITY 7: SUPER CHEF

NO. OF PARTICIPANTS: 4 PER TEAM

The competition will be divided into two sections:

1) The “Challenge”

Guides are given 30 minutes to create and cook a dish relevant to the theme “Empowering women”. The guides can cook with the ingredients given to them, as long as the theme is relevant in the dish. Once the dishes are cooked, they are all presented to the judges for tasting – presentation, taste and the prevalence of the theme ingredient is considered.

2) Pressure test

The guides are given a dish that they then must create in 45 min. Once the guides have finished cooking, the dishes are taken to the judges to be tasted and criticized.

Total time needed: 1 h 15 min

Judging criteria: Overall appeal (20%), Appearance and Presentation (20%), Execution of recipe (20%), Taste (20%) and Relevance to theme (20%)

ACTIVITY 8 : ICONIC WOMEN QUIZ

NO. OF PARTICIPANTS: 3 PER UNIT

Brief:

A set of 30 questions will be set on

a) famous local women,

b) exemplary women in guiding and

c) women who are trendsetters in their professions (time-frame from 1960s onwards).

The competition will be carried out in a classrooms

Format of Quiz:

Every team would be required to complete a written quiz consisting of open-ended and multiple choice questions. Winners will be determined based on which team achieves the highest score in the shortest amount of time. The scores would be added up so as to determine the overall winner. In the event of a tie, the team which completed the quiz in the shortest time will be declared the winner.

Time-frame: 1 hour

ACTIVITY 9 : DANCE TO THE BEAT

Brief:

So you think you can dance? Come take up the challenge and showcase your beautiful and creative moves by dancing to the beat of a mixture of songs!

Judging Criteria:

1. Creativity – 30%

2. Choreography/Synchronisation and Rhythm of Dance – 30%

3. Showmanship and Teamwork – 10%

4. Level of Difficulty – 10%

5. Incorporation of guiding knowledge – 10%

6. Audience Impact – 10%

Format of Competition:

- Teams will be given a maximum of 1½ hour to prepare for the dance item and winning entries will perform prior to the prize presentation ceremony. All teams will prepare for the dance at the hall.

- Music will be provided by the organiser on the day of the competition.

- Teams are highly encouraged to bring along costumes and suitable props

-The music will be about 3-4 minutes long and is a mixture of popular tunes.

'Green Packet Design Competition'

'Green Packet Design Competition'. This competition is held to commemorate Hari Raya Puasa which falls on 30th of August this year.

Participants have to design an original green packet to reflect the tradition of Hari Raya Puasa.

All guides are to submit a design for both competitions by the mentioned dates, to their respective level commanders.

This is a reminder to bring some food tomorrow for your lunch as we will only be providing bread, tuna, sausages and lettuce. You eat what you bring, and everyone should be contributing something to the group.

Performances for the entertainers badge will have to be of an acceptable standard. Below is the clauses of the Entertainer's badge as a reminder.

1. Perform two items, each to last at least two minutes, from the following: dancing, singing, playing an instrument, reciting.

Note: The items may be of the same kind, e.g. two contrasted songs. The standard is to be very high and suitable for a public entertainment.

2. Entertain Guides for ten minutes with at least two of the following (other than items performed in clause 1):-

Conjuring tricks; playing whistle , banjo, harmonica, harp and any other portable instrument; character sketches; stories; songs and chorus; mime.

Note: The standard need not be high as in clause 1, but suitable for a campfire.

TOYMAKER BADGE

Guides are to choose to do one of the following clauses, and bring the materials needed:

2.5 Make a room of doll’s house from a box; paint, paper and furnish it completely, using oddments and scraps.
2.6 Make a scrapbook to include one page of original illustrations or an original story, e.g. a fairy story, nature story, heroic story.
2.7 Make a model farmyard or doll’s house

Please also bring materials that you will need to make a sock puppet for Clause 1 of the Toymaker Badge.

PHOTOGRAPHER BADGE

Guides are to bring their own cameras for the photographer badge (No sharing allowed) and complete the following clause:

Bring to the test ten photographs which she has taken, developed and printed during the previous nine months; the prints to be mounted in any of the usual ways. The subjects are to include at least five of the following:
3.1 Interior;
3.2 Portrait;
3.3 Landscape;
3.4 Architecture;
3.5 Action;
3.6 Copy of a photograph, a drawing or a painting;
3.7 Flowers;
3.8 Birds, animals, insects.

Disposable cameras will be recommended as the photos you take will have to be printed out. Unless you have a high quality photo printer, please use a disposable camera.

3.45pm- 4.45pm: All Guides will split into your respective patrols in the canteen, and make 2 toys each using materials you have brought. They must represent your patrol either in terms of the animal or the qualities possessed by the character you have made. [Toymaker Badge Clause 2.1: Make two different animals of some soft material. Cut-out patterns may be used. ]

Suggestions: Bring cloth or felt. Twine will be provided for the stuffing in the toys, but you may bring your own stuffing if you want to.

4.45pm- 5.15pm: Sec 4s will be discussing (the new posts) in the Guide Den.

Sec 3s, 2s, and 1s will be having level talks with the respective commanders in the canteen/ G-block area (discussing the future expectations of Guides and how to become ideal role models)

Patrol Corner - Discuss what to bring on Thursday (eg. materials, design of toy/patrol identity etc.)

You will be making your own toy representing your patrol (you can include qualities your patrol has) and this will be one of the Toymaker Proficiency Badge clauses. This will be carried out in the canteen.

Patrol Leaders, please go through and make sure your Sec 1s know the procedure during enrolment.

Sec 3s will continue preparing for the funfair in the G block classrooms.

Venue: Basketball court, canteen, G-block area.

Attire: Half-Guide Uniform, Sec 1s wear P.E. shirt + School Skirt

Time: 3.30pm- 6.00pm

3.30pm- 3.45pm: Attendance taking in the basketball court.

3.45pm- 4.15pm:

Sec 4s will be discussing with the Guiders (regarding the posts for the Sec 3s + Guide Shirt design)

Sec 3s will be doing Scribe Badge Clauses 1 and 2: Keep a patrol log or a minute book for two consecutive months. Keep accounts for a patrol or personal fund for two consecutive months (Record down what to do) in the canteen.

Sec 2s will be doing footdrills in the basketball court.

Sec 1s will be doing Bronze Test Clause Home 2.1 Pg 120-122 (Written) in the canteen.

4.15pm- 5.00pm:

Sec 4s will clean up the Guide Den.

Sec 3s will be discussing for Sec 4 farewell near the G-block area.

Sec 2s will be having level bonding in the canteen.

Sec 1s will be doing Bronze Test Clause Home 2.2 Pg 123 - 127 (Practical): Bring the materials stated in the guide handbook pg 125 to school to make a pencil holder in the canteen.

5.00pm- 5.45pm: All levels will be having Patrol Corner in the canteen to discuss the previous weeks' outdoor cooking practice and suggest how it can be improved.

5.45pm- 6.00pm: Taps

Thursday (31st March 2011)

Venue: Basketball court, canteen, G-block area.

Attire: Half-Guide Uniform

Time: 3.30pm- 6.00pm

3.30pm- 3.45pm: Attendance taking in the basketball court.

3.45pm- 4.45pm:

All Guides will split into Coy 1 and Coy 2. Two patrols per Coy (which equals to 3 groups in every Coy) will combine for the following activities:

Coy 1 will be doing outdoor cooking which includes turfing, starting of fire and boiling of water. Please bring dry leaves and twigs, toothpaste, newspapers and one mess-tin per patrol.

Coy 2 will do axemanship theory as well as map reading.

4.45pm- 5.45pm: Coy 1 and 2 will change activities, then clean up.

5.45pm- 6.00pm: Taps
